Help! We’ve been breached!
Our Customer noticed that a Senior Manager of the team had been requesting that certain invoices be fast tracked and paid – when queried with this Senior Manager, it was discovered that they had not sent these email requests and had no idea!
Once informed, we got to work immediately.
We disabled the Senior Members account straight away and reset the password – we then checked the logs for any suspicious log in and activity. We found several dodgy log-ins but these criminals were clever and had deleted some of the earlier logs – we also found rules set up in Outlook that directed mail from certain people here / there, set to delete, etc. The whole thing was quite messy but we cleaned it all up, we suspect that the criminals had not been in too long.
As we cleaned this mailbox, we then advised and forced log outs of all other mailbox accounts and reset passwords – all passwords were shared separately to email. We increased the monitoring and on-boarded all users to our 24/7 monitoring & support and locked down access from the UK only – if anyone needed access from outside the UK, this can be requested, set and then removed.
We then set new compliance and security policies for all users and devices as well as EDR and Ransomware protection as well as enrolling all devices into SOC Monitoring. Some of these services use AI to learn your habits and will flag anything out of the ordinary – such as logging in out of hours or downloading large amounts of data.
Now this Customer can sleep easy, with all of our advanced 24/7/365 security tools in place, if another Criminal attempts to access and attack them again, we would be notified immediately and any attempts will be blocked and neutralised.
IT Transformation Project
We all know Tech moves quickly, so much that after even a few years it can be unsupported, slow, make loud, endearing noises or simply parts are just worn out.
After careful consideration, this Customer applied for funding available to their industry, to overhaul their Technology to ensure they futureproof themselves and be well able to move quickly and efficiently into the new Tech landscape.
They engaged with us to discuss replacing all their hardware including servers, laptops and PC’s but since they relied heavily on on-prem Servers, they wanted a more agile Cloud based solution to enable hybrid working but also to derisk hardware failure issues.
We worked with the Customer to map out a 12 month IT Transformation Project – where we spread the budget spend over time and also minimized the extent of disruption and change into smaller, manageable steps for all involved.
Project highlights included updating of all legacy workstations and configuring their cloud environment to support the Customer’s desire to work in the ‘Modern Workplace’ environment. This not only enabled hybrid working environments but created a more agile, digital and efficient workforce to be better equipped for today’s Tech landscape. We also decommissioned a number of on-prem services, moving them into the 365 Cloud to support this requirement.
We then introduced layers of additional security including MFA, VPN, EDR, SOC Monitoring and Dark Web monitoring to further ensure that the Customer’s security posture remained intact and compliant so that they can continue their business without any further potential headaches.

Our Customer approached us with a request, they are a Tech focused company and looking to scale, grow and seek further investment. What would make them more attractive from an IT perspective?
Using our Technical Alignment and vCIO services, we provided an initial audit and reporting against Cyber Security & Technical best practices highlighting all the strengths and weaknesses in the business. We then work with the Customer to build a 3 year strategic Business Plan with measurable timelines and goals to ensure that their Tech and the security of their users work alongside and towards their business goals.
During this process, we provide quarterly business reviews to report on progress, changes and any other requirements which may arise. Together, we created a rolling 3 year plan for the Company to achieve their goals in managed steps enabling organic scale and growth.
Among these goals, there is a desire to gain ISO accreditation, we had already supported and helped them gain their Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus. We devised a plan to create the necessary policies and procedures to satisfy the requirements, so all are aligned in readiness, along with Cyber Risk training for their employees as well as how their data is handled and backed up. But also how third party consultants and vendors interact with their systems, highlighting the importance of cyber security due diligence in their supply chain.
We also took the opportunity to do some housekeeping and cleaning of their networks, systems, hardware devices and user accounts.
